E38, E39, E53 Voice Input System (SES) Adapter Harness for Digital Phones

E39, 5 Series sedan from 03/97 up to 01/00

E53, X5 vehicles up to 08/00

SITUATION
A special Voice Input System (SES) adapter harness (P/N 84 11 0 029 707) has been developed, for retrofitting into vehicles without factory installed SES wiring. The Voice Input System (SES) can now be installed in the above listed vehicles, as a "customer pay" option.

To install the SES System, the following components have to be ordered:

1. SES Adapter Harness P/N 84 11 0 029 707

2. SES Vehicle Installation Kit (part numbers are specific to the vehicle model and equipment level):

-- E38 - P/N 84 11 0 027 947, plus bracket P/N 84 43 8 381 529

-- E39 - with Nav system - P/N 84 11 0 136 468

-- E39 - with MID - P/N 84 11 0 136 469

-- E53 - with Nav system - P/N 84 11 0 137 351

-- E53 - with MID - P/N 84 11 0 137 352

3. E38/E39 produced prior to 09/97 - MFL controls P/N 61 31 6 903 396 and P/N 61 31 8 380 274 (or P/N 61 31 8 380 275 if equipped with heated steering wheel).

PROCEDURE

The SES Adapter Harness is electrically divided into two sections: one part provides two "T" connections that splice into the vehicle phone connector X400 and microphone connector X4221. The other section has a blue, 26-pin ELO connector for the SES Control Module.





1. Connect SES Adapter Harness "T" Splice (4) into Vehicle Connector X400 (1).

2. Connect SES Adapter Harness "T" Splice (5) into Vehicle Microphone Connector X4221 (2).

3. Connect Blue, 26-pin ELO Connector (6) from Adapter Harness into SES Control Module (7)

4. Install SES Control Module (7) into vehicle following vehicle specific instructions included in the vehicle specific installation kit.

5. If required, replace the steering wheel MFL controls.

6. Test system per "Functional Check of SES System" section of the installation instructions.
