Rear Muffler

MODEL
E46 M3 with S54 engine

SITUATION
Two rear mufflers (different tail pipes) are offered for the E46 M3 depending on vehicle production date.

As outlined in the Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC):

Part Number 18 10 0 139 484 is installed up to 2/01 and
Part Number 18 10 7 831 783 is installed from 2/01.

The early style muffler (up to 2/01) has stainless steel tail pipes that are spot welded to the muffler pipes.

The later style muffler (from 2/01) has chrome tail pipes that are riveted to the muffler pipes.

INFORMATION

If a muffler replacement becomes necessary on a vehicle produced before 2/01, the later style muffler with chrome tail pipes may be used.

Note:
The riveted chrome tail pipes should not be installed / retrofit on early style mufflers with stainless steel tail pipes.
