Repositioning Seat Belt Tab

SITUATION

The positioning buttons for the metal tab on the front seat belts of E46 convertibles were installed in the wrong position on cars produced prior to 5/00. The button is in a position that is too low, which can allow the metal tab to get caught between the seat backrest and the door panel. If the door is slammed when the tab is in a horizontal position, the door panel and/or the seat cover can be damaged.

CORRECTION

The button position was raised by 180 mm on cars produced from 5/00 on. Any cars produced prior to 5/00 should be checked on the next visit to the workshop, and any incorrectly positioned tabs should be corrected by adding a new stop button.

PROCEDURE





Install a new button assembly, part numbers 72 11 917 406 and 72 11 1 950 829, to each front seat belt as shown in the illustration.





Peen over the pin of the button with special tool DO 5 040.
