Removing and Installing or Replacing Left or Right Output Shaft

Remove/replacing left or right output shaft (compact, Z3)

Remove wheel.




Lift out retaining plate.

Unfasten nut.




Installation:

Apply light coat of oil to contact face of nut.

Tightening torque:
M22 200 Nm (148 ft lb)
M24 250 Nm (185 ft lb)
M27 300 Nm (222 ft lb)

Drive in new retaining plate with special tool 33 1 020.




Unscrew output shaft from car and suspend on a piece of wire.

Installation:

Use washers (1).

Tightening torque:
Fillister head bolt M10 83 Nm (61 ft lb)
with locking teeth M10 96 Nm (71 ft lb)
M12 110 Nm (81 ft lb)
Torx Bolt M10 83 Nm (61 ft lb)
with ribbed teeth M8 64 Nm (47 ft lb)
Black M10 100 Nm (74 ft lb)
Silver (replace) M10 80 Nm (59 ft lb)
M12 135 Nm (100 ft lb)




Support semi-trailing arm with a workshop hoist, unfasten screw and lower semi-trailing arm.

Installation:

Tightening torque: 77 Nm (56 ft lb)




Caution! Prevent the output shaft from falling down.

Mount special tools 33 2 111/116/117 with two wheel bolts.

Press out and remove output shaft.




Pull in output shaft using special tools 332 114/115/116.
