Perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles the next time they are in the shop for maintenance or repairs.
SUBJECT:
Coolant Hose Replacement
MODEL:
Z3 roadster 2.8 and 2.3
Situation:
An incorrect coolant hose was installed during production on a very limited number of Z3 vehicles. The hose connects the coolant expansion tank to the coolant pipe on the left side of the engine and is approximately 2 cm. (3/4 in.) too short.
This coolant hose may develop leaks due to its short length in conjunction with engine movement while the vehicle is being driven (hose stretch).
Vehicles Affected:
This Service Action involves Z3 roadster 2.8 and 2.3 vehicles produced on 7/27/99 and 7/28/99
In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
The Chassis Number Ranges listed are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.
Correction:
Replace the coolant hose with hose part number 11 53 1 716 643 which connects the bottom a the coolant expansion tank with the coolant pipe on the left side of the engine under the intake manifold on all affected vehicles. (see illustration)
Notes:
Drain coolant from the expansion tank into a clean drain pan for reuse after the hose has been replaced. Bleed the coding system. See E36 repair manual group 17 section 17 00 039.

b) punch out code number 255 printed on the label and,
c) affix the label to the B pillar as shown:
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the ne~ label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
