SUBJECT:
Electro-Hydraulic Top not Immobilized when Hardtop Fitted
MODEL:
Z3 roadster (E36/7)
Situation:
When the hardtop is installed on Z3 roadsters, pressing the E-H convertible top switch in the "close" direction will cause the motor to run, and the convertible top to move up, until it meets the base of the hardtop. If pressure is maintained on the switch, the motor continues to run, causing concern that the motor may be damaged.
General Information:
It is a normal condition for the electro-hydraulic top not to be immobilized when the hardtop is fitted.
The motor on the electro-hydraulic top is fitted with a pressure relief valve. When the convertible top stalls against the hardtop, the pressure relief valve allows the motor to free run without causing damage.
