SUBJECT:
Headliner Strings Come Loose
MODEL:
Z3 roadster up to 9/99 production
Situation:
The clips on the front headliner fastening strings can break on model year 2000 roadsters produced prior to 9/99, allowing the headliner to wrinkle on the sides and the strings to become exposed.
Correction:
The clips securing the strings were changed to an improved material in 9/99. In case of customer complaint, both headliner string assemblies may be replaced.
Procedure:
Open the top part way to release the tension on the headliner strings.
Partially remove the side seal to get access to remove the retaining screw for the string bracket.
Unhook the string from the headliner by pushing the hook to the rear. Attach the new string to the headliner by slipping the hook into the headliner and pulling it forward so that the hook engages.
Disconnect the spring from the chain link and attach new assembly to the chain.
