Flat Tire Repair Procedures

Situation:

The M roadster is not supplied with a spare tire due to space constraints. As described in Service Information 71 01 98, the M mobility system originally intended for emergency flat tire temporary repairs cannot be used due to technical problems with the sealant.

The M roadster will therefore be covered by a lifetime Roadside Assistance coverage for flat tire service. This will provide a customer that encounters a flat tire situation with a means of getting their car to the nearest BMW center for repair. In addition, BMW is working on alternative repair methods.

If an M roadster owner is towed in when the service department is closed, the customer should be provided with a loaner car, or, if one is not available, a rental reimbursement for the time until the service department is open or the tire is repaired. The BMW agreement with Enterprise Rent-A-Car should be utilized to provide the best possible service to our customers.

In order to ensure that each BMW Center will be properly equipped to repair M roadsters with flat tires, two Dunlop SR Sport 8080 E tires (one front, one rear) will be shipped to all BMW Centers. Please refer to Parts Bulletin 36 03 98 for further details.

If an M roadster with a flat tire is towed in, check the tire to determine the cause of the flat. If the flat was caused by a reason other than damage to the tire (i.e. leaking valve), and the tire had not been damaged, the problem may be corrected and the tire returned to service.

If the flat has been caused by damage to the tire, such as a puncture, the tire must be replaced. This is because the tire manufacturer does not recommend repairs to speed rated tires. All costs related to the repair of a condition of this nature are the responsibility of the customer.

Whenever one of the program tires has been used, a replacement should be ordered immediately as per the instructions in the parts bulletin. Please note that tire type used must be a Dunlop SP Sport 8080 E. This tire has been specifically developed for this application, and mixing of other tire types (i.e. Sp Sport 8000) is not approved.

Reimbursement for rental costs when appropriate may be submitted on a warranty claim.
