Convertible Top Hydraulic Cylinder: Service and Repair

(electrohydraulic/semi-automatic) (Z3 Roadster, M Roadster)

Observe instructions for electrohydraulic convertible top (electrohydraulic/ semi-automatic).
Removing and installing rear left lower section of side trim.







Open convertible top.
Lift finisher (1) off main bearing threading toward the rear and pull out upward.







Close convertible top (do not lock).
Release retaining clip (1) and pull off downward.
Clip out hydraulic cylinder (2) inward with special tool 00 9 319.







Partially unfasten clips (1) and remove convertible-top compartment interior trim paneling (2) downward out of bracket (3) in area of hydraulic cylinder.
Unfasten lines on hydraulic control unit.







From convertible top compartment:
Lift out cable grommet (1). Open cable connector (2).

Installation:
Ensure proper routing of hoses (3).







From trunk:
Open cable connector (1).
Unclip clip (2).

Installation:
Ensure proper routing of hoses (3).







From vehicle interior:
Open cable ties (1) and pull retainer (2) into front detent position.
Unclip hydraulic cylinder (3) with special tool 00 9 319.
Remove hydraulic cylinder with hoses (4).

Installation:
Check function.







Only replace:
Before installing the hydraulic cylinder, unfasten top retainer (1) and pull bottom retainer (2) into front detent position.
