Removing and Installing or Replacing Left or Right Output Shaft
Remove or replacing left or right output shaft (M Roadster, M Coupe)Remove back wheel.
Unscrew collar nut (1).
Installation:
Replace and lubricate collar nut with oil.
Tightening Torque:
M22 200 Nm (148 ft lb)
M24 250 Nm (185 ft lb)
M27 300 Nm (222 ft lb)
Secure collar nut by peening the flat surface on the output shaft.
Unscrew bolts, take output shaft off of final drive flange and suspend from car on a piece of wire.
Installation:
Use shims (1).
Tightening Torque:
Fillister head bolt M10 83 Nm (61 ft lb)
with locking teeth M10 96 Nm (71 ft lb)
M12 110 Nm (81 ft lb)
Torx Bolt M10 83 Nm (61 ft lb)
with ribbed teeth M8 64 Nm (47 ft lb)
Black M10 100 Nm (74 ft lb)
Silver (replace) M10 80 Nm (59 ft lb)
M12 135 Nm (100 ft lb)
Support semi-trailing arm with a workshop hoist, unfasten screw and lower semi-trailing arm.
Installation:
Tightening Torque: 100 Nm (74 ft lb)
Caution! Prevent the output shaft from falling down.
Secure special tool 332 111/116/117 with wheel studs and press off output shaft.
Installation:
Pull in output shaft using special tool 33 2 115/116/118.
