SUBJECT:
Fuel Gauge Reads 1/4 when Tank is Full
MODEL:
Z3 (E36/7) produced from September 1,1998 to April 4,1999
Situation:
After filling up with gas, the fuel gauge reads approximately 1/4 full, and then moves very slowly to the full position.
Cause:
Software error in instrument cluster.
**Correction:
Do not replace any components.
Recode the instrument cluster using DIS CD version 18.0. or later (available June 1999) as follows:
Select - Coding/Programming / ZCS Coding / E36 / Recoding / Kombi, and then follow the on-screen prompts to complete the coding process.
Recoding the instrument cluster activates an internal day counter (instrument cluster test function test # 3.1) If test 3.1 contains a value greater than zero, this indicates that the instrument cluster already contains the fix.
Note:
After recoding, test 3.1 will show a value greater than zero on the day following the recoding operation.**
