Wiper Motor Linkage: Service and Repair

Removing and installing complete mounting bracket for windshield wiper system with motor (2-door model)

Special tools required:

Support 512 140

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove wiper arms, refer to Wiper Arm - Service and Repair - Procedures Service and Repair






- Unscrew left and right screws (1).
- Unscrew nut (2). Remove earthing cable.






- Disconnect gas-filled struts on left and right. To do so, remove retainers at suspension points of gas-filled struts.






- Turn hood hinges (1) on left and right forwards up to stop (2).






- Attach special tool 51 2 140 on left and right to suspension points of gas-filled strut.






- Unscrew left and right bolts.






- Unclip trim grill at top and lift out.






- Unscrewing cable-channel screws.






- Press wiring harness to one side. Remove screws.






- Pull out air collector in upwards direction.






- Remove soundproofing sheet.






- Unscrew cover screws and remove cover.

Installation:
- Make sure rubber grommets (1) and (2) are correctly seated.






- Disconnect control-unit plug-in connections.
- Place wiring harness to one side.






- Release screws/nuts (1 to 4).

Installation:
- Observe tightening sequence of screws/nuts. Refer to chart below
1. Nut (4) 5AZ
2. Nut (1) 5AZ
3. Screw (2) 6AZ
4. Screw (3) 6AZ






- Unscrew bolts (1 and 2), remove holder.

Installation:

Tightening torques, refer to chart below

1. Screw (1) 8AZ
2. Screw (2) 9AZ






- Disconnect plug connection at bulkhead/wiper motor.






- Unscrew holder of plug-in connection.

Important! Risk of damage! Do not push plug-in connection into passenger compartment.






- Mask off cowl panel on inside and at edges with plastic sheet or similar. This prevents the cowl panel from being scratched when the wiper mounting bracket is removed.






- Wrap driver's side wiper shaft in insulating tape to prevent scratching cowl panel during removal.
- Release nuts (2) on left and right

Installation:

- Tightening torque refer to chart below









- Remove mounting bracket for windshield wiper system complete with motor from body as shown in above illustrations.






Installation:

- Tie back wiring on holder with a cable strap.
