Replacing Front Windshield Wiper Arms
- Engine bonnet closed.
- Remove both wiper blades.
- Compress retainer.
CAUTION: Do not switch on windscreen wipers with the engine hood raised. If tolerances are unfavorable, the wiper arm on the driver side could collide with the engine bonnet and windscreen if the wipers were switched on.
Remove fuse for windscreen wipers to avoid damaging engine bonnet and windscreen.
4-door models:
- Unscrew bolt at locating bracket of gas-pressure damper at engine bonnet.
- Raise engine bonnet to working position.
- Remove caps.
2-door:
- Unscrew left and right screws (1).
- Unscrew nut (2). Remove earthing cable.
- Remove sheet-metal retainers from gas-pressure props using a screwdriver (on left only top, on right top and bottom).
- Tilt left gas-pressure spring forward.
- Unclip cable guide on right-hand gas-pressure spring and remove gas- pressure springs.
- Twist engine bonnet (1) forward as far as stop (2).
- Install special tool 51 2 140 on attachment points of gas-pressure springs.
Safety information:
In the interests of safety, sheet-metal retainers of special tool must engage on studs!
- Remove cover on left and right sides.
- Unscrew left and right nuts.
Installation:
- Tighten wiper arm nut to specifications.
- After waiting for 15 minutes, again tighten to tightening torque.
- Fold up wiper arms to limit position and remove form drive shaft.
- Adjusting dimensions from center of wiper-blade clip point on wiper arm to sealing lip on windscreen panelling.
4-door models:
A = 50 mm
B = 50 mm
2-door:
A = 43 mm
B = 53 mm
Installation:
Only install in following sequence:
1st Run wiper motor to parked position.
2. Switch off wipers.
3. Fit wiper arms.
4. Close engine bonnet!
5. Fit wiper blades.
