Adjusting Left or Right Front Door Window

Adjusting Left or Right Front Door Window (Coupe and Convertible)

NOTE: See instructions for adjusting door window (coupe and convertible)

- To measure retraction depths (B) and (C), open door, fit special tool 51 3 080 to door window and close door.

Checking End Stop:

Without removal of door trim panel:
- Retraction depth (C):
Ideal Adjustment:
Dimension (C) is measured on A-pillar.
Dimension (C) = 1.0 ....... 1.5 mm
Removing rubbing strip.

Lower the door window to about 105 to 110 mm.
Loosen the lower screw through the rear adjusting hole.
- Rotate Torx screw clockwise.
- Turn cap screw (4 mm) counter-clockwise.

Lower the door window to about 65 to 70 mm.
Loosen the top screw through the rear adjustment bore.
- Rotate Torx screw clockwise.
- Turn cap screw counter-clockwise.

Raise and align door window.
Tighten the screws.
- Rotate Torx screw clockwise.
- Turn cap screw counter-clockwise.
Tightening torque,

Front Door Windows:

CAUTION!
Checking limit stop,

Parallelism (window tilt):

Raise the door window and mark along the seal at top and bottom using a water-colour marker.

NOTE: Clean the door window glass.

Close door window and loosen screw through front adjustment bore.
- Rotate Torx screw clockwise.
- Turn cap screw (5 mm) counter-clockwise.

NOTE: Screw is approx. 30... 40 mm to the left and approx. 10... 20 mm above the adjustment bore.

Aligning door window and tightening down screw.
Tightening torque,

Front Door Windows:

NOTE: Check parallelism and mount the rubbing strip.

CAUTION!
Checking limit stop,

Checking End Stop:

Retraction depth (B):

NOTE: If gasket makes complete contact with glass and preload level (D) has been reached, dimension (B) can deviate.

Ideal Adjustment:
Dimension (B) = approx. 1.5 ... 2.5 mm
Dimension (B) is measured approx. 90 and 400 mm before edge of door window at B-pillar.

Lower door window and remove rubber plugs from bottom of door.

Installation:
Insert the rubber plugs.

Adjust height stops through holes.

CAUTION!
Measurement (B) is dictated by the door seal, which settles in the course of time.

Consequently the height stops must be adjusted so that the door window can be lowered even after failure of automatic lowering.
Checking limit stop,

Preload (D):
Raise the door window.
Door window (1) must bear on gasket (2) at the right upper edge if the door has reached distance (D).
Distance (D) is measured about 20 mm above the door fold.
Distance (D) = 8 mm (convertible 3 mm)

CAUTION!
Excessive preload could cause the door window glass to break.
Checking limit stop,

Loosen lower screws and align door window.
Screw in (do not tighten) one screw of the lower window guide rail (risk of distorting guide rail).
Tighten the second screw and afterwards tighten the first screw.

With disassembly of door trim panel:

Pull off cover.

Installation:
Replace cover.

NOTE. Initial adjustments are necessary if parts of the door window system had been replaced, in order to prevent breaking the glass.

Initial retraction depth (C) adjustment:
Version with "one" adjusting hole:
Screw upper window guide rail tight at centre.
Version with "two" adjusting holes behind rubbing strip:
Screw upper window guide rail tight at center.

Initial retraction depth (C) adjustment:
Version with "two" adjusting holes behind rubbing strip:
Tightening central screws.

Front Door Windows:

Raise the door window.
Loosen screw, press soft detent forwards and tighten screw.

Front Door Windows:

Preload (D):

CAUTION!
Excessive preload could cause the door window glass to break.

NOTE: The door window glass must be firmly closed.

Adjust dimensions (E) and (F) on roller guide (1) for door window glass (2).
Dimension (E) = 30 mm
Dimension (F) = 34 mm
Tightening torque,

Front Door Windows:

Loosen the lower screws.
Align the door window.
Pull down centre of window guide rail.
Hand-tighten one screw under window guide rail but do not tighten down (risk of distorting the window guide rail).
Tighten the second screw and afterwards tighten the first screw.

Raise the door window.
Door window (1) must bear on gasket (2) at the right upper edge if the door has reached distance (D).
Distance (D) is measured about 20 mm above the door fold.
Distance (D) = 8 mm (convertible 3 mm)

Parallelism (window tilt):
Raise the door window and mark along the seal at top and bottom using a water-colour marker.

NOTE: Clean the door window glass.

Loosen the screw.
Adjust parallelism and tighten down screw.
Tightening torque,

Front Door Windows:

Checking End Stop:

Open the door and apply special tool 51 3 080 to the door window.
Close door and check retraction depth (C).
Dimension (C) is measured on A-pillar.
Retraction depth (C) = 1.0 ....... 1.5 mm

CAUTION!
Checking limit stop,

Retraction depth (B):

Lower door window and remove rubber plugs from bottom of door.

Installation:
Insert the rubber plugs.

Adjust height stops through holes.

CAUTION!
Measurement (B) is dictated by the door seal, which settles in the course of time.
Consequently the height stops must be adjusted so that the door window can be lowered even after failure of automatic lowering.
Checking limit stop,

Retraction depth (C):

Version with "one" adjusting hole:
Loosen screws and adjust retraction depth (C) on the window guide rail.
Retraction depth (C) = 1.0 ....... 1.5 mm

Raise and align door window.
Tighten the screws.
For tightening torque,

Front Door Windows:

CAUTION!
Checking limit stop,

Retraction depth (C):

Version with "two" adjusting holes behind rubbing strip:
Loosen bolts.

Raise and align door window.
Tighten the screws.
For tightening torque,

Front Door Windows:

CAUTION!
Checking limit stop,

NOTE:

If the retraction depth (C) is not reached at the front, loosen the outside mirror.
Have a second person pull the front rubber guide down and tighten the outside mirror.

Retraction depth (C) = 1.0 ... 1.5 mm

Check gap (A) between finisher and door window.
Distance (A) = approx. 4 ... 5 mm
Remove and replace plate (1) if necessary.

NOTE: The plate should fit on the other side so that larger deviations are acceptable.
