Version With Rear Constant-Velocity Joint
Remove exhaust assembly.
Remove heat shield (1).
Remove brackets (1 and 2) for exhaust system mounting (only if fitted).
Remove clamp (3).
Installation:
Install clamp (3) with long collar (4) at rear.
Version with joint disc, front: Unscrew joint disc on transmission.
Installation:
Replace stop nuts.
To prevent torsion stress on flexible coupling, only turn nuts or bolts on flange side, if possible.
Tightening torque, refer to Drive Propeller Shaft, Specifications.
Remove constant-velocity joint from final drive.
Unscrew center mount.
Installation:
Preload centre mount in forwards direction 2 - 4 mm (A).
Tightening torque, refer to Drive Propeller Shaft, Specifications
Caution: Do not let propeller shaft fall into joints. In particular, of constant-velocity joint, rubber collar can become squashed, or joints may be damaged.
Bend down propeller shaft at centre mount and pull off centering pin on manual transmission or constant velocity joint on final drive.
Note: Protect constant velocity joint from dirt with transport cap or similar item.
Installation:
Top up grease fill.
Use suitable grease.
Quantity of grease, refer to Technical Data
Pull out constant velocity joint (1) to limit position.
Coat sealing faces of constant velocity joint and input flange with grease.
Replace seal (2).
Use new nuts.
Fit propeller shaft with disconnected constant velocity joint to input flange on the final drive.
Caution: The constant velocity joint must not be compressed during assembly because the grease fill can force away the seal, leading to leakage from the constant velocity joint.
By tightening two opposing nuts in turn, evenly draw constant velocity joint into the input flange.
Then tighten down the remaining nuts.
Tightening torque, refer to Drive Propeller Shaft, Specifications.
Installation:
Check center (4).
Replace a damaged centre.
Before fitting, coat centering device with Molykote Long term 2 grease.
