Replacing Shaft Seal For Input Flange on Final Drive
Replacing shaft seal for input flange on final driveRemoving final drive.
Secure final drive to assembly frame with special tool 33 1 010 or 33 1 070.
Lift out retaining plate.
Mark position of nut (1) relative to input shaft with peening tool.
Brace input flange with special tool 23 0 020 and unfasten nut.
Remove input shaft: special tool 33 1150 may prove necessary.
Caution! If sealing face of input flange is badly worn, unit must be replaced. For this: Fit input flange back into plate and tighten down collar nut until marks are aligned.
Remove shaft seal with special tool 00 5 010.
Drive new shaft seal firmly home with special tool 00 5 500 and 33 3 430 for transmission type "K" (side cover with 4 screws) or 33 3 470 for transmission type "M" (side cover with 6 screws).
Coat sealing lips of shaft seal and sealing face of input flange with final drive oil.
Fit input flange.
If necessary, press-fit input flange using special tool 23 1 300, until nut can be fastened into position.
Tighten collar nut (1) only to point where marker points are aligned.
Caution! Never tighten the collar nut beyond the marks otherwise the clamping sleeve must be replaced.
To this end, the marker points must be aligned before starting work.
Drive in new retaining plate with special tool 00 5 500 and 33 3 480.
