Differential Output Shaft Seal
Replacing shaft seal for drive flange left or right
Note: After finishing this operation, check the final drive oil level and add oil if necessary.
Unscrew and suspend output shaft from car on a piece of wire.
Installation:
Fit washers (1).
Tightening torque, refer to Specifications
Remove drive flange with a tire iron.
Caution: Do not damage dust cover on drive flange.
Installation:
Replace stretched or damaged circlip.
Rotate circlip (1) in such a manner that both ends of circlip are recessed in groove.
Apply light coat of final drive oil to contact face of shaft seal on driver flange.
Turn in flange by hand with light pressure until the round wire snap ring is heard to engage.
Press driver flange further in until retaining ring is hear to engage.
Pull out shaft seal using special tools 00 5 010 and 33 1 308.
Coat housing plate flange and sealing lips of shaft seal with final drive oil.
Drive in shaft seal as far as stop using special tools 00 5 500/33 3 460 for four-hole cover or 33 3 420 for six-hole cover.
