Multi-Disc Brakes D/G



24 22 700 Replacing multi-disc brakes D/G
Refer to Planetary Gear Set I and II.





Configuration of multi-plate brake "D/G"





Insert special tool 24 1 250: Pull bar upwards.





Insert special tool and press bar downwards.

Note: Multi-disc brake D/G is removed complete with clutch T" and the planet gears, and held together by the special tool.





Remove transmission extension:
Unscrew bolts.

Installation:
Install guide (1) for cable holder.
Tightening torque, refer to Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Specifications.





Pull off transmission extension.
Note spacer (1).
Replace O-Ring (2).





Remove brake/clutch unit "D/G":
Remove all three fillister head screws.





Remove multi-disc brake D/G complete with clutch "F" and planet gears.





Install brake/clutch unit "D/G":
Using special tool 24 1 250, insert multi-disc brake D/G complete with clutch F and planet gears into transmission housing, making sure that all three bores for threaded fastener are aligned.





Screw tightening specification, see Technical Data, refer to Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Specifications.
1. Install all three screws handtight.
2. Preload center screw with 30 Nm.
3. Preload both outer screws with 15 Nm then tighten down to 30 Nm.
4. Tighten all screws to 63 Nm, starting on the center screw.





Caution: If parts of brake/clutch unit "D/G" are replaced, the spacer disc must be recalculated.

Rotate transmission through 1800 (output side facing upwards).





Place transmission extension on vise jaws.
Output flange must not bear.
Press output flange in direction of output.





Measure distance (A) from collar to screw connection face and distance (B) from collar to contact face on output flange.
Calculate gap between screw connection face and contact face on output flange, distance (C):

Example:
A = 10.0 mm
-B = 7.4 mm ____________________
C = 2.6 mm





Measure distance (E) from seating face to shoulder (1) of parking interlock gear.

Example:
E = 4.0 mm

Calculate thickness of shims required:
Distance E
-Distance C
-Axial play: (0. 15 - 0.35 mm) _____________________________
=Total thickness of spacer

Example of calculation:
E = 4.0 mm
-C = 2.6 mm
-Axial play e.g. 0.2 mm _________________________
Spacer = 1.2 mm

Install spacer (1) of correct thickness. Spacers are available from Parts in thicknesses of 0.8 to 2.8 mm.
