Navigation Satellite Timer Reset on August 22, 1999

MODEL:
All with GPS

Situation:
Customers may complain of inaccuracies when using their BMW navigation system on August 22, 1999.

Cause:
The navigation (GPS) satellites will reset their internal timer/counter.

Correction:
On a customer complaint basis, explained this situation tot he customer. No diagnosis or parts replacement is required. The BMW navigation systems uses various inputs to maintain the vehicle location. During the reset, the communication between the satellite and the vehicle will be lost (similar to driving in a tunnel or under tress.) The BMW navigation system will then automatically establish communications with the satellites. This process will last approximately 13 - 25 minutes.
