CD43DIN, C43DIN 4 digit/5 digit Radio Security Code Information

MODEL:
E36

Situation:
Some CD43DIN/C43DIN radios default to 4 digit European security code. Not all USA stations will be received if the tuner is left in the European mode.

Cause:
Default setting in the radio is set to European mode (4 digit code).

Vehicles Affected:
Z3 coupe, Z3 roadster, M coupe, M roadster

Correction:
Enter the 4 digit code, then enter into the service mode and switch to the USA tuner.

If the radio displays the space for the 5 digit code, then the tuner is already in USA mode.

Procedure:
To change to the USA tuner on the C43DIN (cassette):

1. Turn key to "ON" position

2. Turn radio "ON" then turn off" and then "ON"

3. Press and hold "M" button for approximately 10 Seconds. Display will show "SN # ".

4. You are now in the "Service Mode"

5. Use "-" and "+" keys to scroll through various functions until Tuner Area is selected. The display will read "Europe

6. Use the "<" or ">" keys to select "USA".

7. Turn radio "off" to set changes.

To change to the USA tuner on the CD43DIN (compact disc):

1. Turn key to "ON" position

2. Turn radio "ON" then turn off" and then "ON"

3. Press and hold "M" button for approximately 10 Seconds. Display will show "SN #".

4. You are now in the "Service Mode"

5. Use "-" and "+" keys to scroll through various functions until Tuner Area is selected. The display will read "Europe".

6. Use the radio preset keys "1" or "6" to select "USA".

7. Turn radio "off" to set changes.
