Front Suspension


Replacing wheel guide joint in control arms





Stabilizer connection on control arm:
Unscrew nut (1).

Installation note:
Replace self-locking nut (1). Fit shim (2). Tightening torque, refer to Specifications.





Unfasten nut (1) until in encounters spring strut. Fit special tool 31 1 430 with bevel face (2) pointing downwards and detach wheel guide joint from axle journal by striking with hammer (min. 2000 gram hammer)

Installation note:
Bore and taper spigot free of grease. Replace self-locking nut. Press wheel guide joint upwards with a transmission jack: simplifies task of tightening the nut.
Tightening torque, refer to Specifications.





Mark out installation position of wheel guide joint on control arm (colored mark).
Unscrew and remove nut.





Press axle journal outwards to gain access to the wheel guide joint.
Support steering knuckle in position, e.g. with brake support from wheel alignment unit.





Remove wheel guide joint with special tool 31 1 441/443/445/446.





Remove rust from lower face of control arm with scrap/wire brush and clean the bore.





Screw special tool 31 1 448 firmly home on new wheel guide joint.





Insert wheel guide joint in control arm in accordance with installation position marked previously.
Existing locking device (1) must point towards centre of vehicle.





Pull wheel guide joint firmly home with special tool 31 1 441/443/447.
