Removing And Installing Steering Wheel With Airbag II

CAUTION:
Comply with safety precautions!
Incorrect handling can activate airbag and result in injury.
Disconnect battery and cover negative pole or terminal.
If a fault has been detected in airbag system (airbag indicator light illuminates) a 10-minute waiting period must be observed after disconnecting battery. Capacitor in control unit is discharged and a trigger pulse cannot be generated inadvertently.





- Loosen screws (1).

Installation Note:
- Tightening Torque: 2 Nm (1.5 ft lbs).

- Pull off connector and remove airbag unit.

Installation Note:
- Secure airbag unit in steering wheel. Do not pinch wires.

CAUTION:
- Lay airbag unit to one side (in luggage compartment): padded side must always face upwards.

- Remove bolt.
- Mark position of steering wheel relative to steering spindle.

Installation Note:
Tightening Torque: 63 Nm (47 ft lbs).

CAUTION:
- Be careful not to damage turn-indicator cancelling cams.
- Set turn signal lever to center position.

Installation Note:
- Coat slip rings with grease, refer to BMW Service Operating Fluids.
