SUBJECT:
Seat Occupancy Detector MRS Fault Code 25

MODEL:
E34, E36, E39, E38

Situation:
Airbag Light Illuminated: Fault Code 25 (Passenger Side Seat Occupancy Detector).

Cause:
Fault code 25 (Passenger side Seat Occupancy Detector) may be caused by an intermittent fault in the seat occupancy mat (SBE mat) and the SBE module (P/N 65 77 8 367 242).

Vehicles Affected:
E34 (from 6/94 production: 525i, 525iT, 5301, 530iT, 540i) E36, E39, E38 (vehicles produced before 5/98)

Correction:
On a customer complaint basis, perform the normal diagnostic routines in the DIS/Modic Test Modules. If the fault can not be reproduced, replace the seat occupancy mat and the SBE module (located under the seat) if the hardware index on the module is "C7" or lower.

Check the new module for hardware "HW: C8". The hardware number is located on the module.
