Replacing DME Control Unit
- Read fault memory.
- Remove battery.
- Unscrew bolts (1 ... 4). Remove cover from firewall.
CAUTION: Always switch ignition off before disconnecting or connecting connector.
- Unlock retainer and pull connector off control unit.
- Pull out control unit. (securing screws on retaining springs must not be unfastened).
Installation Note: When replacing, note device number and encoding,
CAUTION:
Bosch DME and Siemens MS 40 (MS 40.1) have different control units. These must not be confused.
Danger of Shorting!
Different coding on plug-in connections, code letter and manufacturer on the type plate.
CAUTION:
On test adapter 61 4 410/411 there is a risk of confusing the Bosch DME with the Siemens MS 40.
To prevent any confusion between control units and the engine wiring harness, first check whether the new control unit can be plugged into the engine wiring harness.
Test adapter 61 4 410/411 has zero coding and can be used on both control units even with different coding of plug-in connections.
If units are confused, control unit and wiring harness are destroyed.
