IF THIS OCCURS THE CONTROL MODULE MUST BE REPROGRAMMED BY PERFORMING A MANUAL DETERMINATION AND THE PART NUMBERS LOCATED ON THE COVER OF THE CONTROL MODULE MUST BE ENTERED TO REVERT BACK TO THE CONTROL MODULE'S ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING.**

Procedure:

2. Reprogram DME by performing a manual determination and enter the following part numbers based on model.

P/N Basic P/N Programmed
Model Control Module Control Module

M3, M3 Conv 1406464 7830455
Mroadster, Mcoupe 1406464 7830457

3. Programming Hints:
a. Upon selecting programming - the ignition switch must be cycled oft for 10 seconds and then back on when the following message is displayed:

"M541.2
Install new basic control unit.
Turn on ignition."

b. When the status bar for "Data programming active!" is displayed - The bar may go to 95% completion and the following error message may be displayed:
MS 41.2
Programming cannot be performed correctly!
Test code 012400
Repeat programming if necessary.

When this message is displayed go to diagnostics and view the DME identification screen.

If the manually entered programmed control module number appears on the screen and no error message such as "This control module is not correctly programmed." appears, cycle the ignition switch oft for 10 seconds before starting the engine.

If the error message "This control module is not correctly programmed." appears, reprogram the DME again using manual determination and enter the P/N given in step 2.
