ABS/ASC + T

CAUTION: After finishing work:
- Check function of hydraulic control unit, refer to Testing and Inspection.

- Installation:
Bleed brake system. Service and Repair

Procedure
- Switch off ignition.
- Disconnect battery ground wire.
- Remove air-mass sensor from air-filter housing, refer to Powertrain Management/Computers and Controls.

NOTE: Unscrew drive motor in vehicles with cruise control.





- Draw brake fluid out of expansion tank with a suction bottle reserved for exclusive use with brake fluid.





- Unlock and pull off central connector.
NOTE: Keep brake fluid out of cable connector.





- Unscrew brake pipe (1).
- Installation:
Marking on master brake cylinder
V Front axle
H Rear axle





- Unfasten brake pipes (2 through 7) at hydraulic control unit.

CAUTION: Do not mix up brake pipes (mark if necessary).

- Installation:
Pipe connections
1. master brake cylinder H (rear axle)
2. front right
3. front left
4. rear right
5. rear left
6. master brake cylinder V (front axle)
7. accumulator
Tightening torque, refer to Tightening. Specifications





- Pull suction hoses off elbow on pump body and catch escaping brake fluid.





- Unscrew mounting nut and lift hydraulic control unit out of console.

NOTE: Unscrew carbon filter for tank ventilation in vehicles equipped with cruise control.
