Replacing Electrical Convertible Top Drive Unit
Removing and installing or replacing electrical convertible top drive unit
Note:
- Turn ignition lock into "0" setting.
- Disconnect drives, Initializing EM Convertible Top After Emergency Release (Convertible Top Unlocked)
- Remove convertible top compartment cover.
- Remove trunk trim, left side, Trunk Trim
Soft top closed:
Unlock convertible top and raise over dead center. Lift clamping bracket and convertible top compartment cover upright.
Soft top opened:
Open convertible top lid and lift convertible top out of convertible top box. Raise clamping bracket into upright position.
Note:
If it is not possible to lift the convertible top out of the convertible top box, engage convertible top drive unit and power convertible top out of box electrically. If electric drive does not work, press convertible top down into the convertible top box and press convertible top drive rod (2) firmly outwards. Check convertible top adjustment.
Disconnect plugs (1 and 2).
Disconnect cable ties (3).
Disengage Bowden cable (4) of emergency release mechanism.
Note:
Soft top must be maintained in position "clamping bracket raised".
Unscrew bolts.
Remove convertible top drive rod (2) and clamp clamping bracket drive rod (4) and place to one side.
Installation:
Secure screw with Loctite 270, (sourcing reference BMW Parts Service).
Unscrew screw.
Displace clamping bracket drive rod (4) so far that pilot lever (3) emerges from pivot lever (1). Extract pivot lever (1) by lifting upwards.
Installation:
Secure screw with Loctite 270, (sourcing reference BMW Parts Service).
Unfasten screws and lift convertible top drive unit out downwards.
Installation:
Supplied condition of convertible top drive "clamping bracket at top".
Secure screws with Loctite 270, (sourcing reference BMW Parts Service).
Engine and gear unit Top actuating mechanism to body
Tightening torque 10 Nm
Installation:
Gasket (1) must be fitted.
Caution!
Microswitches S1 and S2 are sealed and must not be displaced.
