Replacing Both Convertible Top Locks (Power/Fully-automatic)



Removing and installing/replacing both convertible top locks (power/fully-automatic)

Note:
- Open convertible top as far as microswitch (S8) "convertible top switches via dead center point".
- Removing and installing finisher on convertible top lock, Replacing Finisher on Convertible Top Lock (Electric Motor/Fully-automatic)
- In addition, on right convertible top lock:
- Removing and installing motor for convertible top lock, Replacing Motor for Convertible Top Lock (Power/Fully-automatic)






Lift out retainer (1) and disconnect ball pan (2).

Pull input shaft (3) off motor.

In addition, on left convertible top lock:

Pull off connector (4), unlock housing (5) and remove from bracket.






Unfasten guide (1), remove completely and wipe away screw retaining fluid with a cleaning cloth.

Adjust input shaft (2) by hand until screw (3) for tool is accessible.

Installation:
- Install guide (1) with Loctite 243 (Sourcing Reference: BMW Parts Service).
- Guide to convertible top lock
Tightening torque 8 Nm






Unfasten screws (1) and nuts (2).

Pull convertible top lock (3) upwards to remove.






Installation:
Adjust dead center point rod (1):
- Preset dimension (A) of dead center point rod (1) from center of ball pan (2) up to center of screw connection (3).

Dimension (A) = 205.5 +/- 1
