Convertible Top Latch: Adjustments

Adjusting left or right convertible top lock (fully-automatic)






Ideal adjustment:
Lid should close flush with windshield.

Note:
Open convertible top up to microswitch (S8) "convertible top switches via dead center point".

Remove and install trim on convertible top lock, Replacing Finisher on Convertible Top Lock (Electric Motor/Fully-automatic)

In addition, on right convertible top lock:

Remove and install drive for convertible top lock, Replacing Motor for Convertible Top Lock (Power/Fully-automatic)






Lift out retainer (1) and disconnect ball pan (2).

Pull input shaft (3) off motor.






Adjust dimension (A) of dead center point rod (1) from center of ball pan (2) to center of screw connection (3).

Dimension (A) = 205.5 +/- 1






Unfasten guide (1), remove completely and wipe away screw securing adhesive (Loctite) with a cleaning cloth.

Adjust input shaft (2) by hand until screw (3) is accessible for tool.

Installation:
Insert guide (1) with Loctite 243 (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).

Guide to convertible top lock
Tightening torque 8 Nm






Loosen screws (1) and nuts (2).

Adjust height using adjusting screw (3).

Tighten down screws (1) and nuts (2).

If applicable, adjust base plates, Replacing the Base Plate on Left or Right
