Replacing convertible top cover (electric motor/fully-automatic)

- Removing and installing both convertible top locks, Replacing Both Convertible Top Locks (Power/Fully-automatic)
- Remove headlining in convertible top, Replacing Headlining in Convertible Top (Electric Motor/Fully-automatic)






Remove convertible top fabric from front (twin-sided adhesive tape).

On the remaining three brackets, first pull off from back to front (1), then pull off the rest towards rear (2).






Bend up tab washer (1), disconnect tensioning cable (B5) and pull backwards to remove.






Unfasten seal from clamping bracket (separate adhesive bond).

Installation:
Stick together cementing faces (2) with cyanate acrylic cement (Loctite 380, refer to BMW Parts Service).

Observe notes for adhesive gaskets, Repair Instructions For Bonded Seals

1 Convertible top compartment cover

Socket Wrench Socket:

Unfasten screw (1) from tensioning tape (2) with special tool 54 3 160.

Installation:
Fit washer (3).






Unscrew bolts (1).

Remove left/right retaining brackets (2) and strip with gasket (3).






Unfasten rivet connection (1) from tensioning tape (2) "center".

Installation:
Rivet down tensioning tape (2), cut off flush with convertible top frame, then seal with soldering iron to prevent it from fraying (3).






Unfasten screw (1) from tensioning tape (2) "bottom" with special tool 54 3 160.

Installation:
Fit washer (3). Tighten down tensioning tape (2), cut off flush with convertible top frame and seal with soldering iron to prevent it from fraying (4).






Unfasten screws (1) and remove gasket together with rail.

Installation:
Fit angle bracket (2) and spacer disc (3).






Unfasten rivet connection (1) from tensioning tape (2) "top".

Installation:
Routing of tensioning tape (2), refer to next operation.

Rivet down tensioning tape (2), cut off and seal with soldering iron to prevent it from fraying (3).






Installation:
- Felt (1) must be removed.
- Insert tensioning tape (2) "top" through slot (3) to secure (refer to previous operation).






Drill out rivets in window guide on C-pillar.

Installation:
The two lower rivets differ in length from the three top ones.

For rivetting, connect blind rivet adapter (repair kit, Sourcing Reference: BMW Parts Service).






Drill out rivets in support angle.






Remove lower convertible top cover from clamping bracket.






Pull off front cover upwards.

Installation:
Ensure it is firmly seated.






Remove convertible top cover from tab washers.

Installation:
Ensure it is firmly seated.

Remove convertible top cover.

Add final details to vehicle.

Installation:
Check function.
