Complete Rear Assembly
Remove complete rear axle carrier
Caution: After assembly, perform wheel alignment check, refer to Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
Unfastening hand-brake cables on hand-brake lever, refer to Brakes and Traction Control.
Removing wheels, refer to Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
Removing exhaust system, refer to Exhaust System.
Unfastening propeller shaft from final drive, refer to Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings and Joints.
Disc Brakes:
Unscrew bolts of left and right brake pipe holders.
Unscrew brake calipers, push them in between output shaft and control arm and suspend from car on a piece of wire.
Disconnect ABS plug. Unplug brake pad wear indicator.
Drum Brakes:
Disconnect left and right brake pipes.
Installation:
Bleeding brake, refer to Brakes and Traction Control.
Support trailing arm from underneath with a lifter.
Unscrew bolt (1) and lower lifter.
Installation:
Tightening Torque, refer to Specifications.
Pull off speedometer signal plug.
Unscrew heat shield.
Unscrew bracket.
Pull parking brake cables out of guides.
Unscrew bolts on trailing arm console.
Installation:
Tightening Torque, refer to Specifications.
Note: Damaged threads in bushes on body side can be repaired with Helicoil thread inserts M 12 X 1.5 X 18. The Helicoil thread inserts must be fitted flush with the original thread.
Take up rear axle special tool 00 2 030/00 2 040/33 3 290.
Unscrew rear axle carrier mounting bolts and nuts.
Installation:
Tightening Torque, refer to Specifications.
Note: Damaged threads in bushes on body side can be repaired with Helicoil thread inserts M 12 X 1.5 X 18. The Helicoil thread inserts must be fitted flush with the original thread.
Lower transmission lifter slowly. Remove springs.
Installation:
Connect springs with rubber rings on body.
