Replacing Front Seat Belts

WARNING: Review safety regulations for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnical seat belt tensioners. Inexpert handling can trigger off the airbag or the belt tensioner and thus cause injury.


- Remove and install left or right front seat (normal / power) (Z3 roadster),
- Remove rear left or right lower section of side trim panel.





Mechanical belt tensioner:


WARNING: To prevent accidental triggering, secure seatbelt tensioner unit before doing any work on the seatbelt tensioner or front seat.


Procedures:
- Twist slotted screw in seatbelt tensioner with screwdriver until a display appears in the screen (arrow), changing from: green = armed (functional) to red = disarmed. has changed.

Installation:
- After work is complete, rearm the seatbelt tensioner!




Pyrotechnical belt tensioner:
- Remove orange plug connection (1) for belt tensioner Open cable tie (2).

Installation:
- Secure wire with cable tie (2) so that orange plug connection is not under strain.




- Unfasten screw (1) and remove safety belt.




Installation:
- Note position of mount on seat frame:
1. retaining screw
2. locating lugs must be between tabs on seatbelt (3)
3. tab on seatbelt





Mechanical belt tensioner:
- Unfasten nut (1) and remove seatbelt tensioner.

Installation:
- Install seatbelt tensioner in coding (2) and screw in nut (1), then tighten down.




Pyrotechnical bell tensioner
- Unscrew bolt (1).
- Remove belt tensioner.
- Note coding of belt tensioner at seat:
1. Bolt
2. Be tensioner
3. Luck washer

- Remove front seat.





Mechanical belt tensioner:


CAUTION: Deactivate belt tightener.


- Turn Bowden cable so that it is perpendicular to seat surface, press out holder and disconnect.
- Electrically adjustable seats - screw in screw.







CAUTION: When replacing belt-lock tightener on manually adjustable seat. If the stop buffer (1) is not fitted to the seat only fit a seatbelt tensioner in accordance with parts microfiche - Edition 1/92.







CAUTION: Further secure locking cable with a cable strap if it is not fitted tightly.





- Unscrew nut and take off belt tightener.

Installation:
- Press seatbelt tensioner against stop (1) and tighten nut to specifications.




Pyrotechnical belt tensioner:
- Remove orange plug connection (1) for belt tensioner.
- Open cable connector (2).

Installation:
- Secure wire with cable tie (2) so that orange plug connection is not under strain.




- Unscrew bolt (1).
- Remove belt tensioner.
- Note coding of belt tensioner at seat:
1. Bolt
2. Belt tensioner
3. Lock washer




4-door models:
- Release safety belt screw from seat.




2-door models:
- Remove cap (1).
- Unscrew bolt (2) and remove belt from rod (3).

Installation:
- Install bush (4).




- Take off cap.
- Unscrew nut.
- Remove B-pillar panelling.




- Unscrew bracket.




- Unscrew automatic reel.




- If applicable, unscrew height adjuster.
