Side Door

WARNING: Review Service Precautions. Improper handling could cause activation of the airbag(s) and lead to injuries Service Precautions


- Remove and install front left or right door trim.






CAUTION: Plug connector for side airbag (adapter lead) is not marked "Orange or Yellow" and is not designed as a special airbag plug connector.






Airbag Module With Connection On Rear Side
- Disconnect adapter line from side airbag module to door wiring harness at plug connector (1).
- Unfasten screws (2).
- Remove airbag module (3).
- To prevent damage to the plug connector on the airbag module, the following assembly sequence must be observed:
- Connect adapter line from side airbag module to plug connector of door wiring harness on side airbag module.

CAUTION: Always replace micro-encapsulated screws. Screw down side airbag module Tightening torque = 11 Nm

- Connect plug connector for adapter line/door wiring harness.

NOTE: Modified airbag modules will be used.

The difference is that:
- In the case of the modified airbag modules, the airbag plug connection is located on the side and an elbow plug is fitted.
- In the case of the former airbag modules, the airbag plug connection is located on the rear side and a flat plug is fitted.





Previous Version:
- Connection for airbag plug on rear side and a flat airbag plug is fitted.





Modified Version:
- Connection for airbag plug on side and an elbow airbag plug is fitted.





NOTE: If an airbag module with the airbag plug connection at the rear is replaced by an airbag module with the airbag plug connection on the side, it is necessary to observe the following:

- Fit a cable clip at point where airbag module cable emerges from door wiring harness, replace adapter lead with flat airbag plug with an adapter lead with angle airbag plug, secure adapter lead with cable strap to door wiring harness, tie back airbag module cable at point of exit from door wiring harness by the excess length (approx. 5 cm), this point of exit is located near the door opener (2).

CAUTION: Airbag plug on airbag module and plug on adapter lead must not be subjected to tension!

- Lay lead as a loop and do not kink.
- To locate, secure lead to door wiring harness with cable strap (1), the lead must not rattle or scuff.
- Secure airbag plug to airbag module with retainer.





Airbag Module With Connection On Side
- Take off locking clip.
- Detach adapter lead with plug (1) from side airbag module.
- Unfasten screws (2).
- Remove airbag module (3).

To prevent damage to the plug connector on the airbag module, the following assembly sequence must be observed:

CAUTION: Always replace micro-encapsulated screws. Screw down side airbag module Tightening torque = 11 Nm

- Attach adapter lead to side airbag module.
- Mount retaining clip, replace damaged clip if necessary.
