The introduction of the 328i in the 1996 model year also brought the first engine management system manufactured by Siemens to the US market; M541 .1. Compared with Bosch systems, MS 41 .x systems uses a few unique sensors and control methods. MS 41 .x was also the first system to meet TLEV compliancy.
