Various Failures Caused by Faulty Siemens Relays
MODEL:
E36, E38, E39
Situation:
Siemens general purpose relay P/N 61 36 8 373 700 depending on its application, may cause the failure of a variety of vehicle systems - DME, fuel pump, wipers, etc. The color of the relay cover is light green
Cause:
Faulty relays produced at Siemens between week 30, 1997 (late July 97) and week 49, 1997 (early December 97).

Procedure:
In case of a customer complaint, check the production date of Siemens relay P/N 61 36 8 373 700 (These relays are light green in color)
The date code (1) used on the relay is a three digit number in the format week/week/year. In this example, date code 397 translates into week 39, 1997.
Potentially affected relays were produced between date codes 307 and 497
For information, the relay part number (2) is stamped on the side of the cover
Confirm if relay is defective by using Relay Test Tool 61 3 010, and replace if necessary.
Parts stocks of suspect relays have been purged.
