Fuel Pressure Regulator: Description and Operation

Function Description For Fuel Pressure Regulator:

As the operating mode of the engine varies, so does the amount of fuel it requires, ranging from low at idle speed to high at full throttle. This requirement is set with the help of the pressure regulator. The pressure regulator governs the fuel pressure, controlling it between low and high to suit requirements. Fine adjustment of the fuel injection quantity is performed using the fuel injection period controlled by the DME.

Vacuum in the intake manifold provides the load connection for pressure regulation. This vacuum is applied to the diaphragm in the pressure regulator.

At idle speed or when coasting, a vacuum develops in the intake pipe. Fuel pressure reduces by this amount, starting from the nominal value. The nominal value is embossed in the housing of the pressure regulator.

At full throttle, the intake pipe is approximately 0 and the pressure regulator controls fuel pressure to the nominal value embossed on the housing.
