Flushing Radiator
Note: If oil enters the coolant circuit, the radiator and expansion tank must be flushed with cleaning agent.
Caution: When working on the oil or fuel circuit, you must protect the alternator against contamination (not for alternators with coolant jackets).
Cover alternator with suitable materials.
Failure to comply with this procedure may result in an alternator malfunction.
Separate expansion tank
Remove radiator refer to Radiator, Service and Repair.
Remove coolant expansion tank, refer to Coolant Overflow Reservoir, Service and Repair.
Integrated expansion tank
Remove radiator, refer to Radiator, Service and Repair.
1. Prepare approx. 2 liters of cleaning agent.
2. Fill radiator and expansion tank and shake throughly. Wait a few minutes until oil has separated.
3. Drain rediator and expansion tank.
4. Reinstall cleaned radiator and, where applicable, the expansion tank.
5. Fill entire cooling system (heating control to "warm") with hot water and throughly flush by changing water several times.
6. Check drained flushing for traces of oil. If necessary, repeat Procedure 5.
After cleaning procedure, top up coolant, refer to Coolant, Service and Repair.
