Replacing convertible top fabric

Remove headliner, Replacing Headlining in Convertible Top (with Folding Aid for Convertible Top Cover)






Remove convertible top fabric from front (twin-sided adhesive tape).

On the remaining three rods, first pull off from back to front (1), then pull off rest backwards (2).






Bend up tab washer (1), disconnect tensioning cable (B5) and pull backwards to remove.






Unfasten seal from clamping bracket (separate adhesive bond).

Installation:

Stick together cementing faces (2) with cyanate acrylic cement (Loctite 380, refer to BMW Parts Service).

Unfasten screws and remove strip together with gasket.

Unfasten screw from tension belt "center".

Installation:






Tighten down tension belt, cut off flush with convertible top frame and seal edges with soldering iron to prevent fraying (1).






Unfasten screw from tension belt "bottom".

Installation:

Insert tension belt behind microswitch cable (2).

Tighten down tension belt, cut off flush with convertible top frame and seal edges with soldering iron to prevent fraying (1).






Unfasten screws (1) and remove gasket together with rail.

Installation:

Fit angled bracket (2) and spacer disc (3).

Installation:

Insert tension belt "top" behind clamping bracket and secure with gasket rail.






Tighten down tensioning band, cut off flush with gasket rail and seal with soldering rod to prevent fraying (1).






Drill out rivets in window guide on C-pillar.

Installation:

The two lower rivets differ in length from the three top ones.

For rivetting, fit blind rivet adapter (repair kit, Sourcing Reference: BMW Parts Service).






Drill out rivets in support angle.






Remove lower convertible top cover from clamping bracket.






Pull off front cover upwards.

Installation:

Ensure it is firmly seated.






Only version with flat pocket:

Unscrew spring (F2) from clamping bracket.

Installation:

Do not twist tensioning cable (B6).






Remove convertible top cover from tab washers.

Installation:

Ensure it is firmly seated.

Only version with flat pocket:






Unfasten cap nut and remove screw lug (V3) together with tensioning cable (B6).

Remove convertible top cover.

Add final details to vehicle.

Installation:

Check function.
