Replacing Radial Seal For Output Flange

Note: After completing these operations, check the transmission oil level and top up if necessary, refer to "Checking Oil Level In Automatic Transmission"

- Remove complete exhaust system.




Remove heat shield (1).




- Remove heat shield and brackets for left and right splash guards.




- Support transmission with special tool 00 2 030 / 24 0 170.




- Unclip cable for oxygen sensors on transmission cross-member.
- Unfasten screws and remove cross-member.

Installation:
- Tightening Torque: 21 Nm

- Disconnect propeller shaft from transmission flange and tie up to one side. Service and Repair




- Unfasten screws.

Installation:
- Tightening Torque: 25 Nm




- Remove transmission extension.

Installation:
- Replace O-ring.




Installation:
- Install shim.
- If new output flange and/or new bearing is installed, adjust end float, refer to "Replacing Output Flange"




- Clamp special tool 24 0 190 in vice.
- Fit transmission extension to the special tool.




- Knock back cotter pin in grooved nut.

Installation:
- Peen grooved nut to secure.




- Unfasten grooved nut with special tool 24 4 110.

Installation:
- Tightening Torque: 120 Nm




- Remove transmission extension from special tool.
- Remove output flange from mounting.

Installation:
- Coat sealing lip of radial seal and sealing surface of output flange with transmission oil.




- Lift out radial seal.




Installation:
- Drive in radial seal flush using special tool 00 5 500 / 24 4 090.
