Bleeding Procedure

Filling and Bleeding LAD System

- With engine off, fill power steering/LAD fluid reservoir until fluid level (A) is approximately 25 mm (1 in) below reservoir rim.

NOTE: The hydraulic system on early E32 cars uses Pentosin CHF 7.1 hydraulic fluid. Beginning with cars produced in September 1991, Pentosin CHF 11 S is used in the hydraulic system.

CAUTION: Check the hydraulic reservoir for a label identifying the type of fluid used. Do not mix fluids.

- Load car with 150 kg (332 lbs) placed in the luggage compartment.

- Start engine. Turn steering wheel from lock to lock three times. Turn engine off.

WARNING: Only run the car in a well-ventilated area. Exhaust fumes can be fatal.

- Raise rear of car until drive wheels are off ground. Wait about two minutes and check fluid level. Fluid level should be no more than 25 mm (1 in) above the base of the reservoir screen. Correct the fluid level as necessary.
