Timing Case Cover Lower
Removing and installing/sealing or replacing timing case cover at bottom (M60)
Remove engine
Secure engine to special tool 00 1 450. These tasks are described in the work step, Removing and installing left cylinder head.
Remove both cylinder heads. Service and Repair
Remove water pump with thermostat housing. Service and Repair
Remove upper oil sump section. Service and Repair
Remove hub for vibration damper. Service and Repair
Unfasten lower timing case cover.
Installation:
Secure chain and rails with plastic strap.
Installation:
Clean and remove grease from sealing surfaces of the engine block.
Make sure that sleeves are correctly seated.
Replace seals.
Installation:
Install timing case cover, insert all screws and initially tighten to approx. 5 Nm.
Firmly tighten all screws in alternate sequence.
Tightening torque:
M6 screw = 10 Nm
M7 screw = 15 Nm
M8 screw = 22 Nm
M10 screw = 47 Nm
CAUTION! If all screws are tightened, they must be tightened again in a second operation.
NOTE: The timing case cover gaskets are designed as coated metal gaskets.
Fit special tool 00 9 190 flat.
Cut off protruding ends of seals.
CAUTION! Gasket debris trimmings must not drop into engine.
Replace radial seal in timing case cover at bottom.
