Replacing Upper Oil Sump Section

(Engine removed)
Secure engine to special tool 00 1 450.

These tasks are described in the work step, Removing and installing left cylinder head.
Remove lower oil sump section.







Unfasten guide tube for dipstick on oil pan.

Installation:
Replace sealing ring.
Insert sealing ring and washer in oil sump bore.







Unfasten return line from oil pan.

Installation:
Replace sealing ring.

Tightening torque = 30 Nm







Release oil sump screws on inside of oil sump.







Release oil sump screws to end cover and then the remaining oil sump screws.







Installation:
Clean sealing faces and free of seal debris. Apply Hylomar SQ 32M liquid sealing compound, refer to BMW Parts Service, to contact edges of separating face.

Replace gasket. Install upper oil sump section and insert all oil sump screws.







Installation:
In order to exclude torsion stress when installing the transmission later, align the oil pan flush with the engine block on the transmission side.
Tighten all oil sump screws.
