Description of On-Board Diagnostic System

Notes on the BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM:

With *D* MONITOR OUTPUTS, a check can be made as to whether the door lock heating is switched on. The ignition can be switched off despite diagnostic mode. The switch-on conditions must, however be observed.

During simulation, the door lock heating system is stored as defective. The defect code memory is therefore cleared automatically after simulation. Redetection of a defect code: Activate door lock heating from vehicle (normal operation - precisely comply with switch-on conditions).

If defective, the door lock heating system can be detected and stored by the defect code memory. On the other hand, however, a defective door handle contact can be detected only via the status lists.

TSH detected as "not installed":

After receiving its voltage supply (terminal 30 at Pin A1), the ZKE general module checks whether the diagnostic link for the TSH (Pin C14 or B26) is connected to ground, if the input is open, the TSH will be detected as not being installed.

If the general module is installed with the vehicle battery connected, undefined contacting when plugging in the module may result in the input being detected as open and thus indicating the TSH as "not installed".

The door lock heating system does not function in this case!

If a TSH system is installed in the vehicle but not detected by the general module, disconnect the vehicle battery for at least 5 seconds.

If the TSH is still detected as "not installed" after reconnecting the vehicle battery (and reselection of ZKE!), perform troubleshooting in accordance with defect code 01 (door lock heating defect code is stored).

Troubleshooting:

Notes:

- Troubleshooting with BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Battery charged, U-min = 12 V.
- If all functions of the central body electronics (ZKE) have failed, perform troubleshooting in accordance with the diagnostic procedure for central locking system.
- If the central locking system is defective, perform troubleshooting in accordance with diagnostic procedure for central locking system.
- If the electronic power fuse is indicated as being faulty or the fuse is OFF despite the ignition being switched on (*D* 027 Electronic power fuse), continue with diagnostic procedure for central body electronics (ZKE).

Important!

When the supply voltage is applied (terminal 30 at Pin Al), the general module detects which part systems are installed in the vehicle. Undefined contacting when plugging in the module can result in systems not being detected. Therefore:

Disconnect vehicle battery before installing the ZKE general module!

or

After installing the ZKE general module, disconnect the vehicle battery for at least 5 seconds.

Refer to Central Body Electronics (ZKE), Functional Description.
