Widespread Gear Ratio Automatic Transmission

3-Series and 525i/iT vehicles receive a new version of the A4S 31OR (THM-R1) transmission, incorporating lower first and second gear ratios. This enhances low end acceleration without adversely influencing exhaust emissions or fuel economy.

E36 M42 as of 1/94 production;
E36 M5O and 525i/iT as of 9/93 production.
