Locking/Unlocking Vehicles W/Standard Equipment BMW Alarms

A) 540i and 8 - Series with DWA:

Lock and double lock the vehicle by either of 2 ways:

- Conventionally with the master key.

- By pressing the BMW logo button of the alarm remote controls integrated into the master key once or twice to correspondingly lock and double lock the vehicle.

DWA is armed and the driveway protection is automatically activated whenever the vehicle is double locked.

Disarming DWA can only be accomplished with the remote control button (which also unlocks the doors from the double lock position). If the master key is used to mechanically unlock the vehicle from the double lock (DWA is armed) position, the alarm will sound. It can then be turned off only with the remote control button. It cannot be turned off by turning the ignition to the "run" position.

This information appears in the vehicle owner's manual on:

54Oi: p. 9-11 and 13-13b in 1994 manual, P/N O1 47 9 787 747;

Series: p. 23-28 in 1994 manual, P/N O1 47 9 787 737.

B) 7 - Series with Alpine Alarm:

Lock and double lock vehicle by either of 2 ways:

- Conventionally with the master key.

- By pressing the appropriate buttons of the separate alarm remote control.

The alarm can only be armed via the remote control, and not by the vehicle keys.

The alarm is disarmed by pressing the remote control's "UL/DA" button, which also unlocks the doors. If the doors are unlocked using the vehicle keys while the alarm is armed, the alarm will sound. It can then be turned off by either pressing the "UL/DA" button on the remote control or by turning the ignition switch to the "run" position. This information appears in the supplemental Alarm Owner's Manual.
