Transmission Oil Temperature Sensor

The oil temperature sensor is a temperature dependent resistor which is soldered into the internal transmission wiring harness. Transmission temperature information is used to control shift comfort, to activate the torque converter clutch, as well as to activate a special warm-up program after a cold start. At a transmission oil temperature below 45~C (113~F), the EGS control unit preselects this special driving program with raised shift points for 3 minutes after starting to more rapidly bring the catalytic converter up to its operating temperature. Converter clutch engagement is also postponed until the engine has warmed up.
