SUBJECT:
Servicing ZAE Airbag Systems
MODELS:
All
Situation:
The ZAE Airbag control module integrates impact sensors into the body of the control module. This design mandates strict adherence to proper service procedures.
Solution:
Whenever any service procedure requires disconnecting or removing of SRS control modules, sensors, airbag modules, belt tensioners, or wiring, the battery ground (B-) should be completely disconnected before beginning work.
Procedure:
Do not perform work on, or remove, the SRS control module until the battery (B-) has been disconnected.
Do not operate any vehicle functions with any portion of the SRS system (airbag modules, SRS control module, sensors) loose or improperly mounted.
Do not strike the SRS control module, or use heavy tools such as hammers or air-impact tools on or near the control module. If body repair or other procedure requires use of heavy/striking tools in this area, disconnect the vehicle battery (B-) before proceeding.
Refer to TRI 72 01 93 (2137) ZAE: "Maintenance, Repair and Handling" for a complete list of safety precautions applicable to all vehicle models and SRS systems.
Refer to S.I. 72 01 92 (3633) for the correct procedure for checking airbag module electrical resistance.
