Wiper Control Module: Description and Operation
Wipe/Wash Module (WWM):Notes:
This section applies only if a wipe/wash module (WWM) is installed. If a ZKE general module is installed, perform troubleshooting in accordance with ZKE Windscreen wiper control.
Functional Description:
General Block Diagram:
The windscreen wiper and wash system is controlled by the wipe/wash module (WWM). The individual functions can be switched on and off with the combined wipe/wash switch. The ignition switch must be in position 1 or 2 (R or 15) for this purpose.
The wipe/wash system consists of the following components:
- Wipe/wash switch
- Wash pump
- Wipe/wash module (WWM)
- Wiper motor
- Wiper relay K52 (diode relay, 6.pin)
- Wiper motor relay K53 (5-pin)
Wipe/wash Functions:
General: Ground is switched in all wipe/wash positions.
The wiper blades are returned to their park position by means of a micro-switch which is installed in the wiper motor. This switch switches ground to the wipe/wash module provided the wiper is outside the park position.
Single wipe: Press down the wipe/wash switch. Switch does not lock in position.
Intermittent wipe: The wiper runs in intermittent mode (at 5 second intervals). The wiper intervals are doubled when the vehicle is stationary (speed less than 30 km/h).
Stage 1: When the vehicle is stationary, the wiper runs in intermittent mode (5 second intervals). The wiper runs continuously in stage 1 at a road speed in excess of 30 km/h.
Stage 2: The wipe/wash module is bypassed. Wiper operation is therefore possible in stage 2 (emergency operation) in the event of failure of the electronic system or when the anti-blocking function is active. In this case, the wiper does not return automatically to the park position.
Wash: The wash procedure is controlled by the wipe/wash module (WWM).
Wash sequence: Wash pump operates -> the wiper starts after a delay at stage 1 -> washer pump stops -> wiper continues running and wipes the windscreen dry.
The washer pump operates for as long as the switch is operated.
Anti-Blocking Function:
The functions, intermittent wipe, stage 1, single wipe and wash are protected against blocking.
The anti-blocking function is active after 16 seconds when:
a) the wiper motor blocks during operation
b) the wiper motor blocks in rest position.
Clearing anti-blocking function:
a) Automatically after 3 minutes when wiper switch is in OFF position (maximum 9 times in succession).
b) By switching off the ignition (also switch off the wiper switch!).
