Lamp Cleaning Module: Description and Operation

Headlight Washer System (SRA/ZKE):

Functional Description:

The headlight washer system (SRA) is controlled by the general module (GM). The relays are located in the SRA module. Installation location: Front relay box.

Operating Principle:

When the "wash" function is operated in the vehicle and the parking light is also switched on. the headlight washer pump is briefly switched on twice in
succession. A high pressure water jet cleans the headlight lenses.

If switched on, the fog lights are also washed.

In order to avoid excessive water consumption, the headlight washer system (SRA) is inhibited for approx. 30 seconds after each wash cycle.

SRA Pumps:

5 Series (E34):
Only one pump is installed to wash the headlights and fog lights. Depending on the direction of rotation of the pump, either the headlights or the fog lights
are washed.

7 Series (E32):
Two pumps are installed for washing the headlights and fog lights.

SRA Module:

The SRA module contains the relays for control of the SRA pumps. A diagnostic link (from the SRA module to the general module) monitors the relays for
defects.

Also refer to Central Body Electronics (ZKE).

Important!

The SRA modules of the 5 Series (E34) and 7 Series (E32) are not mutually interchangeable (see modified pin assignments!)

Due to a modified operating sequence with respect to time when using two SRA pumps, ZKE general modules with the software version 4.2 must not be installed in the E34 when an SRA system is installed.
