Intake Air Plenum: Testing and Inspection
PHYSICAL INSPECTION1. Inspect for leaks at gaskets.
2. Inspect for damage.
3. Inspect for missing fasteners or components.
Repair or replace faulty components.
Inspect the intake air boot for:
^ Loose or missing fasteners
^ Loose or missing clamps
^ Leaks
^ Restriction
INTAKE SYSTEM LEAK DETECTOR TEST
4. Spray the intake system components selectively and systematically with an appropriate leak detector in the area of the suspected air leak and observe the CO reading.
^ When the product is drawn into the engine, an increase in CO will be noticed.
NOTE: a. Because the idle speed system is adaptive by design, a change in idle speed will not occur.
b. If excessive amounts of leak detector is used the engine may draw in the leak detector through the air cleaner, presenting a false reading at the exhaust analyzer.
5. Repair or replace as necessary.
